How speaking time is estimated
Speaking is much slower than silent reading. A comfortable presentation pace is about 130 words per minute; deliberate delivery drops to ~100, while an energetic podcast host may hit 150–160. So a script that reads in three minutes often speaks in six. Pick the pace that matches your delivery for a realistic estimate.
The reverse mode is the useful part
Speakers usually have a fixed time slot, not a fixed script. Enter your target minutes and the tool returns a word budget — for example, a 5-minute talk at a conversational pace is roughly 650 words. Draft to that number and you will not run long.
